Gadi Eisenkot, head of the Yachad Party, intends to form the next Israeli government with the broadest possible coalition, focusing on universal conscription and an investigation into the October 7 failures. He presented four core principles for potential partners, including recognizing Israel as a Jewish and democratic state and designating Hamas as a terrorist organization. Likud ministers, however, view the prospects for a unity government with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as slim due to required concessions. President Yitzhak Herzog is set to begin consultations with party leaders on Wednesday to recommend a candidate for prime minister.

Gadi Eisenkot, head of the Yachad Party, announced Saturday evening his intention to immediately work towards forming the next Israeli government with the "broadest possible coalition." He also plans to establish an official investigation committee into the failures of October 7, 2023, push for universal conscription, increase IDF enlistment, and repeal laws related to judicial overhaul. Eisenkot described the recent elections as the most fateful in Israel's history, stating that their results are clear despite attempts to question their integrity. He pledged to reunite Israel and end the "culture of lies" led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, promising an end to the "us and them" mentality.

Eisenkot outlined four principles for potential coalition partners: recognizing Israel as a Jewish, democratic, liberal, and equal state; adhering to the values of the Declaration of Independence; implementing universal military, national, or civil service; and designating Hamas as a terrorist organization that must be dismantled in Gaza. He emphasized that any Knesset member willing to sign these principles is a potential partner in forming a new and better government.

He stressed the need for exceptional efforts to avoid new elections and a prolonged political crisis, given the high voter turnout and existing challenges. Eisenkot stated that the public has spoken on October 27, and the decision on forming the government rests solely with the citizens. He added that elected officials have a responsibility to translate the public's will into reality.

Eisenkot believes the failures of October 7 and the subsequent security, domestic, economic, and international realities necessitate swift and courageous decisions. He aims to achieve broad national consensus to begin the process of reform and rehabilitation. He also stated that while the war against enemies continues and its objectives are unmet, he will only support military operations if there are immediate threats to Israel that cannot be postponed until the new government is sworn in.

Meanwhile, Likud ministers expressed skepticism about the chances of a unity government between Netanyahu and Eisenkot, citing significant political concessions required from both sides. These statements come ahead of Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog's consultations with party leaders on Wednesday to recommend a candidate for prime minister. Eisenkot also met with Yair Lapid to coordinate steps based on their shared commitment to the voters' will. Members of the United Torah Judaism party are also scheduled to discuss their next moves regarding government formation.
