Olympic swimmer Leah Polonsky set a new Israeli record in the 200-meter butterfly event during the U.S. Trails for the Short Course World Championships. Competing in Westmont, Illinois, Polonsky clocked a time of 2:09.33 minutes, shaving 0.36 seconds off the previous national record held by Keren Zibner since 2015. Zibner, who represented Israel at the Rio 2016 Olympics, also previously held the Israeli record for the 200m backstroke.

Polonsky's impressive performance placed her fifth in the preliminary heats of the competition. Although foreign swimmers are permitted to participate in the trials, they are not eligible for the finals. Therefore, Polonsky will not compete in the final race despite her record-breaking achievement.

This event served as Polonsky's final preparation race for the upcoming Short Course World Championships, scheduled to take place in Beijing in early December. She is also slated to compete in the 200m freestyle and 100m butterfly events in the preliminary rounds of the U.S. Trails on Friday and Saturday.
