A Russian court in St. Petersburg has received an indictment for a murder that occurred in Ashkelon, Israel, 22 years ago. Russian authorities allege that on March 31, 2004, Arkady Nosimovich, now 68, traveled to Israel and killed Andrei Chernyavsky. According to the Russian investigation, Nosimovich claimed Chernyavsky had defrauded him of 200 million rubles (approximately $7.7 million shekels) and decided to exact revenge.
Investigators state that the defendant purchased a weapon and traveled to Israel with an accomplice. They allegedly ambushed Chernyavsky, with Nosimovich firing at least seven shots into the victim's head. Both individuals reportedly returned to Russia after the murder. The accomplice died in 2015, according to Russian authorities.
Nosimovich faces charges under Article 105, Part 2 of the Russian Criminal Code, which pertains to murder committed by an organized group or under contract. The trial is expected to commence soon in St. Petersburg. In October 2024, Russia's Investigative Committee for St. Petersburg announced it was investigating the case in cooperation with Israeli law enforcement. The committee stated that surveillance footage confirmed the suspect's presence at the victim's home on the day of the murder, and witness testimonies indicated Nosimovich's alleged involvement.
