The Central Elections Committee is preparing to count approximately half a million "double envelopes" containing votes from soldiers, diplomats, and prisoners, a process expected to begin after midnight on Wednesday and conclude by Thursday evening. These votes could significantly impact the results of the 26th Knesset elections and alter the distribution of mandates between political blocs.
The counting process, estimated to involve between 430,000 and 480,000 ballots, is complex and designed to ensure election integrity. It begins with scanning and verifying the outer envelopes, followed by removing and mixing the inner voting envelopes to maintain ballot secrecy before they are transferred for counting at a dedicated facility in the Knesset parking lot.
To ensure transparency, the entire counting procedure will be broadcast live on the committee's official YouTube channel and via a special feed to media outlets. Results will be continuously updated throughout the night and day on the Central Elections Committee website, allowing the public to follow developments in real-time.
