A new settlement named Geva Shomron was established in northern Samaria, with the first ten families moving in the day after Israeli elections. The residents have begun settling into caravans, with furniture and personal belongings being delivered. The establishment of Geva Shomron was announced by the Shomron Regional Council.
The new settlement is located on the site of the former Sa-Nur paratrooper training base, near a settlement of the same name that was previously evacuated. This marks the tenth settlement founded by the Shomron Regional Council in the past year. The founding ceremony was attended by Yossi Dagan, head of the Shomron Regional Council; Boaz Bismuth, Chairman of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee; Berel Lazar, Chief Rabbi of Russia; Ze'ev Hever, Secretary-General of the Amana movement; and the families of the first settlers.
Geva Shomron is part of a program to establish 19 new settlements in northern Samaria, intended to replace four settlements that were evacuated in 2005. It joins recently established settlements such as Shalem, Rehavam, Eival, Emek Dotan, and Noa, while efforts continue to restore Homesh, Sa-Nur, Ganim, and Kadim.
Yossi Dagan stated that Geva Shomron represents a response to expulsion and a restoration of historical justice. He emphasized that the settlement is being built on the site of a former IDF base, with pioneers from Ramat Gan choosing to build their future there, thereby strengthening security and deepening Israeli roots in the land.
