Maccabi Tel Aviv is reportedly considering American guard Cam Thomas, 25, as a potential new player to address their disappointing season start and the injury to Iffe Lundberg. Thomas, who averaged 24 points per game for the Brooklyn Nets two seasons ago, could offer immediate scoring prowess and alleviate pressure on the team's backcourt, which is already strained by Lundberg's absence. The website "BasketNews" suggested that Maccabi could provide Thomas with significant playing time and offensive freedom, similar to the path Lonnie Walker IV took last season, potentially helping him rebuild his NBA value.

Thomas, a 2021 draft pick, has a history of high-scoring performances, including multiple 40-point games and a career-high of 47 points. However, his production declined last season, averaging 13.5 points across 42 games with the Nets and Milwaukee Bucks before both teams released him. He has not played in the NBA for over seven months and has reportedly garnered limited interest on the free-agent market.

Besides Maccabi Tel Aviv, other European clubs like Milan, Valencia, and Real Madrid, as well as Dubai and potential moves to China, have been mentioned as possibilities. The article draws a parallel to Karsen Edwards, who struggled in the NBA but became a top scorer in the EuroLeague. A significant financial hurdle for Thomas's move to Europe might be his salary expectations, with "BasketNews" estimating a net salary of at least 3 million euros per season, though this is speculative. While China offers high salaries, success in the EuroLeague could be more beneficial for a potential return to the NBA.
