The Israeli military (IDF) announced that it has eliminated three commanders from Hamas's military wing in recent airstrikes in the Gaza Strip. According to the IDF, two of the eliminated commanders participated in the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel.
Anas Akram Mohammed Hamaïda was killed Sunday in the Khan Younis area of southern Gaza. The IDF identified him as a commander in the Nukhba force who took part in the assault on the Soufa military post during the October 7 attack. On the same day, an airstrike in Gaza City killed Ashraf Mahmoud Youssef Dahlan, a platoon commander in the Jabaliya-East battalion, who the army stated infiltrated Israeli territory during the October 7 attack.
A third commander, Mahmoud Othman Abdallah Alwan, a member of the Nukhba within the Jabaliya-West battalion, was killed Monday in the Gaza City area. The IDF claims all three men were preparing attacks against Israeli forces and civilians during the war, particularly recently. They were also allegedly working to rebuild Hamas's capabilities in "systematic violation" of a ceasefire.
The IDF stated the strikes were intended to neutralize the threat posed by these individuals. Southern Command forces remain deployed in the area and will continue operations against any threats.
