Lillard Praises Avdija's Fearless Honesty After Blazers' Win

The Portland Trail Blazers secured a 136-129 road victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday, with strong performances from multiple guards contributing to the win. Luka Dončić led all scorers with 41 points and nine assists for the Lakers, but Portland's balanced offensive effort proved decisive. Deni Avdija added nine assists to his contribution, while Ja Morant scored 23 points, Jrue Holiday had 22, and Damian Lillard finished with 21.

In crucial moments, Morant scored two consecutive baskets, and Lillard sealed the game with a decisive three-pointer. Morant expressed his enjoyment of playing with the team's talented roster, highlighting how the balanced scoring makes his job easier. "It's just a lot of fun," Morant said. "There are a lot of guys here who can do a lot. It's easier for me, the defensive coverages are easier. It's a blessing to play alongside one of the best shooters of all time, and also with talent like Deni, and all the other guys."

Morant also commented on Lillard's game-winning shot, joining in the celebration with Lillard's signature "Dame Time" gesture. He emphasized that playing with Lillard and Avdija is not a surprise, as he focused on his role after the trade to help the team. "I'm a point guard, I knew I could take pressure off them, Dame and I can set up Deni for much easier shots and vice versa," Morant explained, while also stressing the team's need to continue developing chemistry and coordination.

Prior to the game, Lillard shared personal insights about Avdija in an interview with ESPN, describing him as a funny guy with an "unapologetic attitude" and "no shame." Lillard recounted an instance where Avdija admitted to being tired and not getting back on defense due to fatigue, openly confessing it to his teammates during a timeout. "He'll just say what he feels and thinks," Lillard said. "I would say it's my mistake, but I wouldn't admit I was tired. He's super transparent."

In a separate interview with NBC, Lillard discussed his return to Portland and the trust he received after being released by Milwaukee. The 36-year-old guard stated he is content with his journey, believing his departure allowed Portland to build the current roster. "I don't regret any part of my journey," Lillard said. "We are a super talented team, everyone is ego-free and the game feels simple."
