Maccabi Tel Aviv has rejected a significant offer for their center, Roman Sorkin, who extended his contract with the club until 2030 this past summer. The offer came from Baskonia, a EuroLeague team that has been showing interest in the player. Baskonia recently suffered a heavy 106-86 loss to Real Madrid, dropping their EuroLeague record to 1-7, the worst in the league alongside Milan. This places them last in the standings, with Maccabi Tel Aviv also struggling at 2-6, tied with Bayern Munich and Paris.

Baskonia, coached by Paolo Galbiati since August of the previous year, finished 18th in the league last season with a 13-25 record. Despite their current EuroLeague struggles, Baskonia has had a stronger start in their domestic Spanish league, holding a 3-2 record and ranking third behind Tenerife and Real Madrid. Last season, Baskonia was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
