Maccabi Tel Aviv experienced another defensive collapse, falling 100-78 to Crvena Zvezda Belgrade in a EuroLeague game on Tuesday. The team's performance was described as "embarrassing" by coach Oded Katash, who lamented the squad's lack of preparation and poor defensive effort.
Katash stated that the game was effectively lost by halftime, citing a "terrible" start, a lack of aggression, and a loss of structure and game plan within the first few minutes. He acknowledged his responsibility but admitted to having few answers for the team's struggles, emphasizing the need for significant changes.
"This was more than basketball; it was mental," Katash explained, noting the team's failure to respond even after an early timeout. He highlighted critical shortcomings in physical play, defensive rebounding, and foul management, which he believes contributed to the offensive struggles and a poor assist-to-turnover ratio.
The coach expressed disappointment with the manner of the defeat, not just the scoreline, and mentioned the absence of fans. However, he pointed to the upcoming game in two days as a crucial opportunity for the team to react and improve.
