Abu Dhabi to Host Euroleague Final Four Twice in Three Seasons

Abu Dhabi has been officially selected to host the prestigious Euroleague Final Four events in 2027 and 2029. This decision solidifies the Emirati capital's position as a key strategic partner for the European basketball league, following its initial hosting of the tournament in May 2025. The 2027 Final Four is scheduled to take place from May 28-30 at the Etihad Arena.

The announcement comes at a time when Israeli clubs Maccabi Tel Aviv, Hapoel Tel Aviv, and Hapoel Jerusalem are unable to host games in their home arenas in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem due to security concerns, incurring significant financial losses. The Euroleague's decision to award two major events to Abu Dhabi within three seasons is viewed critically in Israel, especially after Euroleague CEO Chus the Euroleague CEO's recent visit to Israel to assess the security situation for potentially resuming games there.

The Euroleague CEO stated that the renewed commitment with Abu Dhabi for the 2027 and 2029 Final Fours represents a significant step in the Euroleague's international growth strategy. He highlighted the success of integrating traditional basketball markets with global cities offering world-class facilities, noting Abu Dhabi's central role in this vision. A local tourism ministry official expressed satisfaction, stating the tournament's return reflects the strength of the partnership and Abu Dhabi's status as a regional basketball hub.

This dual selection of Abu Dhabi is part of the Euroleague's broader expansion efforts into the Middle East, aligning with plans to grow to 24 teams by the 2027/28 season and ongoing discussions about a joint league with the NBA.
