  • New guidelines aim to reduce long lines at polling stations due to high voter turnout.
  • Voters will be identified in parallel while others are voting to speed up the process.
  • Expired identification is acceptable if the voter can be clearly recognized.
  • Poll workers who have served six hours can vote without a physical appointment.
  • Anyone arriving by the 10 PM closing time will be allowed to vote.

The Central Elections Committee is implementing new guidelines to streamline the voting process and reduce long lines at polling stations, following exceptionally high voter turnout. The committee acknowledged the public's broad participation in exercising their right to vote, which has led to congestion at some locations.

Acting Director General Dean Livne has distributed instructions to polling station staff aimed at improving voter service and efficiency while maintaining election integrity. Key measures include identifying the next voter while the current one is in the booth, expediting identification when a voter is clearly recognizable, and handling individual inquiries discreetly to avoid delaying the queue. Staff are also instructed to continue processing voters concurrently with the signing of envelopes and to allow voting with expired identification if the photo allows for clear recognition.

Special provisions are made for eligible voters using external envelopes, which can be filled out by hand. Poll workers who have served at a station for at least six consecutive hours can vote without a physical appointment letter or sticker. The committee also emphasized that anyone arriving at a polling station by the 10:00 PM closing time will be allowed to vote, regardless of queue length.

The committee clarified that a statement attributed to Dean Livne, suggesting poll clerks who fail to prevent congestion would be removed from their posts, was not made by him. The committee urged the public to show patience and respect towards voters and staff working to ensure everyone can cast their ballot.
