  • Elections Committee eases rules to speed up voting amid long lines.
  • Expired ID cards will be accepted for voting if the photo is clear.
  • Voters can approach the booth while the previous voter finishes.
  • Priority access is granted to voters with disabilities.
  • Envelope signing will be done sequentially without causing delays.

The Central Elections Committee has implemented immediate procedural changes to address long queues and extended waiting times at polling stations during the 2026 elections. These adjustments follow a request from Deputy Chairman Erez Molal (Shas), who noted the high voter turnout was causing significant delays. The committee directed all polling station secretaries to expedite the voting process.

Key changes include allowing voters to cast their ballots even with an expired identity card, provided the photo is clear and identifiable. This aims to prevent voters from being turned away or significantly delayed. Additionally, the committee is encouraging a more continuous flow of voters, permitting individuals to enter the polling station and approach the voting booth while the person ahead is still completing their process with the secretary.

Further measures focus on efficient envelope signing, instructing staff not to hold up voters for this step, which should be done sequentially without creating bottlenecks. Voters with disabilities are to be given immediate priority in lines and are explicitly forbidden from being delayed. They are also permitted to enter the voting room with an accompanying person, as stipulated by law, to ensure accessibility.
