Eight new Israeli settlement points have been established in the Hebron region of the West Bank, following a deadly attack over the weekend that claimed the lives of two IDF soldiers. The initiative is led by Minister in the Ministry of Defense Bezalel Smotrich and Head of the Hebron Council Eliram Azulai, in coordination with the IDF and security forces.
Six agricultural farms and two additional settlements are planned. The new settlements are named 'Migdal' between Negohot and Eshkolot, and 'Nofei Gulot' between Otniel and Afeka. The six farms are 'Mitzpeh Tzur', 'Chavat Noy', 'Chavat Lev Amit', 'Chavat ASHL', 'Lem'an Achai', and 'Mitzpeh Or'.
According to Minister Smotrich, the establishment of these settlements and farms is a "do good" step to strengthen and fortify the settlement enterprise. This comes alongside a series of "abstain from evil" measures implemented over the weekend, which included the evacuation of residents from their homes, similar to actions in refugee camps, and the demolition of numerous illegal Arab structures near the attack site. Smotrich personally oversaw the demolition operations.
The two fallen soldiers were identified as Sergeant Major Ron Yonatan Reitman and Sergeant Yuval Shai Suilem.
