MK Avi Maoz Opposes Communications Law Over Sabbath Concerns, Quits Committee Talks

MK Avi Maoz, chairman of the Noam party, announced his immediate withdrawal from the Communications Committee discussions on Monday. Maoz stated that despite dedicating many hours over several months to advancing the communications law, he objects to provisions he believes will expand Sabbath desecration. He accused both coalition and opposition members of collaborating to include clauses that would legitimize and broaden violations of the Sabbath.

Maoz declared he cannot participate in such a legislative process and firmly stated that if the law is brought to a Knesset plenary vote in its current form, he will vote against it. He emphasized his commitment to protecting the sanctity of the Sabbath and the Jewish character of the State of Israel, refusing to support any measure that undermines these values.
