MK Avi Maoz Criticizes Netanyahu for Failing to Uphold Coalition Agreement on Jewish Identity Laws
MK Avi Maoz explained in an interview on the Knesset Channel's "Black and White" program why he left the coalition and questioned why the "full right-wing" government has failed to advance legislation central to its voter base. Maoz, who identifies as part of the right-wing religious Jewish camp, accused the government of blocking all bills related to Jewish identity. He cited the stalled Western Wall law, which he claimed is being blocked by coalition member Rottman with the coalition's backing, the failure to pass the "Who is a Jew" law, and the unfulfilled commitment to repeal the "grandchild clause" as promised by Prime Minister Netanyahu in their coalition agreement.
Maoz stated he has not been part of the coalition for a year and a half because it repeatedly sabotages legislation tied to the Jewish identity of the state. When asked about his plans for the next Knesset elections, he said he intends to run with various communities and parties, evaluating his path about a month and a half before the candidate list deadline. Maoz also expressed skepticism about Netanyahu's efforts to unite right-wing parties, acknowledging Netanyahu's capabilities but emphasizing that he has not kept any promises made in their coalition deal. Maoz added that if Netanyahu wins the upcoming elections and they join forces, Netanyahu will need to prove himself.
