MK Avi Maoz Criticizes Live Dismissal of IDF General, Calls for Private Dialogue

MK Avi Maoz, chairman of the Noam party, condemned the live broadcast dismissal of a serving IDF general, emphasizing that such matters should be handled privately. Speaking on Radio North 104.5FM on August 3, 2026, Maoz stated that if the Defense Minister has concerns about a general or the IDF Chief of Staff, he should summon them for a private discussion rather than making the issue public. He described the general as someone dedicated to protecting settlements and Israeli citizens, asserting that live dismissals are inappropriate.

Maoz also criticized both the military and the Attorney General's office for their handling of the situation, suggesting that the Defense Minister and the military leadership should resolve their differences behind closed doors. He expressed concern over the Chief of Staff acting against the elected political leadership, calling for a comprehensive inquiry to ensure the military follows civilian directives.

Regarding political matters, Maoz spoke about forming a new electoral list to strengthen the right-wing bloc, appealing to voters disillusioned with current coalition parties. He stressed the importance of Torah study and military service in maintaining a Jewish state, advocating for the integration of the ultra-Orthodox community into the IDF. Maoz called on the army to create more units like the Hasmonean Brigade to accommodate ultra-Orthodox soldiers, ensuring they can maintain their religious lifestyle during service.
