United Airlines has been informed that pilot Sina Amjadian will not be allowed to fly to Israel due to security concerns. The decision by Israel's Ministry of Transportation followed an alert from the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs about Amjadian's alleged support for Iranian-backed terror groups. The review was prompted by a recent hijacking attempt on a Flydubai flight to Israel. Procedures for vetting foreign aircrews are now under review.

  • United Airlines pilot Sina Amjadian is barred from flying to Israel over security concerns.
  • Israel's Ministry of Transportation made the decision after an alert from the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs.
  • Amjadian, of Iranian origin, allegedly supported the Revolutionary Guards and Hezbollah.
  • The review intensified after a Flydubai flight hijacking attempt in September.
  • Israel is reviewing procedures for approving foreign aircrews.

United Airlines will not be permitted to assign pilot Sina Amjadian to its flights to Israel. The decision was made by the Ministry of Transportation in full coordination with security officials, following a specific alert from the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and the Fight Against Antisemitism. The ministry raised concerns regarding Amjadian's ties to terror elements and the Tehran regime, given his Iranian origin.

In a formal letter sent this week to the Head of the Shin Bet, David Zinai, and the Director General of the Ministry of Transportation, Moshe Ben Zaken, the Director General of the Diaspora Ministry, Avi Cohen Scali, highlighted social media posts concerning Amjadian. According to the information provided, the pilot, who previously worked for Flydubai, published content supporting the Revolutionary Guards and the Hezbollah terror organization. He was also reportedly filmed kissing and saluting the symbol of the Iranian regime.

The alert and security review were intensified after a serious attempted attack on a Flydubai flight in late September, where a co-pilot assaulted the captain and attempted to hijack the plane en route to Israel. Following this incident, the National Control Center for the Fight Against Antisemitism began monitoring international aviation personnel who might pose a security risk to Israel.

Senior officials at the Ministry of Transportation clarified that while the ministry is not an intelligence agency, information raising aviation safety concerns is immediately addressed with the relevant security authorities. At this stage, it was decided not to approve the arrival of flights with Amjadian as crew. Procedures for approving foreign aircrews are currently being reviewed.
