Granddaughter of Fallen Israeli Border Police Fighter Leads New Generation in Unit

Palag Aharon, a 21-year-old woman from the Lower Galilee, recently completed her Border Police officer training and will now command new recruits at the civilian training base in Beit Horon. She is the granddaughter of Staff Sergeant Shlomo Aharon, who was killed in Lebanon 44 years ago. Although she never met him, Palag grew up hearing stories of his heroism and has dedicated herself to continuing his legacy within the Border Police.

Palag expressed deep pride and emotional connection to her grandfather, saying that wearing the Border Police uniform for the first time made her feel his heroic presence. She described her service as a calling and a way of life, emphasizing her commitment to shaping the next generation of fighters. She highlighted the Border Police's critical role, especially since October 7, as Israel's frontline defense.

Her father, Chief Inspector Assi Aharon, commands community policing in the Emek region and shared memories of his father’s service and tragic death during a mission in Lebanon. The family endured great loss, with Shlomo Aharon’s death leaving his wife a widow caring for four children. Assi and his siblings followed military and police careers, continuing the family tradition of service.

Palag’s journey began with her enlistment in the Border Police, where she completed combat training and served as a squad leader before attending officer training at Bahad 1. She is the only grandchild to carry on her grandfather’s path in the Border Police, a fact that deeply moves her grandmother, Tehila, who honors Shlomo’s memory by preparing his favorite dish for Palag.

Palag’s story reflects a powerful family legacy of dedication to Israel’s security and the enduring impact of sacrifice across generations.
