Sister of Fallen Border Police Fighter Joins Force to Honor His Memory

Shira Yosef, an 18-year-old from Afula, has begun her combat training in the Israeli Border Police, inspired by the memory of her older brother, Sergeant Gal Yosef. Gal, 23, served as a motorcyclist in the Border Police unit in northern Israel and tragically died in a car accident in the Upper Galilee just three weeks after marrying his wife, Hushen. Another Border Police fighter, Sergeant Tomer Eliyahu Klipi, 24, also died in the same accident.

Shira explained that she always wanted to serve in the Border Police, but her brother's death strengthened her resolve to join the unit as a way to continue his legacy. She informed the Border Police casualty officer of her decision and successfully passed all recruitment tests. "For me, the Border Police is more than service; it is family," she said.

The Yosef family is marking the first memorial day since Gal's passing. Their mother, Liat, expressed deep pride and emotion, saying, "When she came home in uniform, it felt like Gal had returned home. The house became green again," referring to the Border Police colors. She praised Shira's determination to serve despite the personal loss.

Last Wednesday, the prosecution filed serious charges against the driver responsible for the fatal accident. The day after, Shira enlisted in the Border Police. Afula's mayor, Avi Elkabetz, commended both siblings for their meaningful service to the country, highlighting the family's strength amid tragedy.
