Brother of Fallen Israeli Commander Joins Reserves as Younger Sibling Becomes Officer

A week after the death of Lieutenant Colonel Dor Gadalia Ben Shimon, his brother Dan Ben Shimon has reported for reserve duty as a company commander, committing to serve at least until September. Meanwhile, their younger brother, Eitan, completed officer training at the IDF's Officer Candidate School (Bahad 1) and earned his squad leader pin, preparing to serve as an officer in the Armored Corps.

Lieutenant Colonel Dor Gadalia Ben Shimon, 32, from Beit Shemesh, was killed in combat in southern Lebanon on the night of June 19. He commanded the 52nd Battalion of the "Iron Trails" (401) Armored Brigade, having taken command only two months earlier after the previous commander was severely wounded. Known for his professionalism and leadership, Ben Shimon was captured on video encouraging his troops just before entering Lebanon, saying, "With heads held high, we will return from our mission after bloody battles, victorious, raising our flag."

He is survived by his wife Ariel and two young daughters. The family continues to bear the heavy burden of loss while demonstrating commitment to military service. The public has expressed deep respect and sorrow on social media, with comments such as "We are not worthy of them."
