Orphaned Groom Needs Public Help for Wedding After Family Hardship

A fundraising appeal is being made for a young groom from an impoverished family, who lost his father at age two and has no memory of him. The father died 20 years ago after a long and serious illness, leaving a widowed mother to raise three orphaned children while coping with major health problems of her own.

The mother, now described as exhausted, ill, and without means, has managed through the years to bring her two older daughters to marriage, but cannot provide even the basic needs for her youngest child’s wedding and new home. The groom himself did not falter, and instead devoted himself to Torah study, becoming a highly regarded scholar known for exceptional diligence and spiritual devotion.

A family associate from Bnei Brak, who has supported the widow and her children for years, said the groom comes from a Sephardi community and has become a prominent learner despite the family’s long-standing poverty. He said the young man’s light of Torah shone through the darkness of his home life.

The appeal says leading rabbis have taken notice, especially Rabbi Shimon Galai, who first recognized the boy’s promise when he was 10 and studied with him regularly. The groom is also personally close to Rabbi Elimelech Biderman, who has supported him לאורך הדרך. Rabbi Galai issued an urgent public plea, saying, “We came to ask from the depths of the heart that anyone who can help this precious orphan enter the chuppah should do so,” and that it is a great merit to contribute generously. He added blessings for donors, praying they be rewarded with salvation, livelihood, children, health, and long life.
