Leading Rabbi Calls for Public Support to Aid Impoverished Groom Facing Wedding Hardship
A prominent rabbinic authority, Rabbi M. Sternbuch, has issued an urgent public appeal to assist a young groom in Israel who is facing severe financial hardship just before his wedding. The groom, from a broken family and without parental support, is struggling alone to cover the basic expenses required to establish his new home. Despite appearing as an ordinary yeshiva student, his life story reveals profound loneliness and hardship, having grown up without the economic and emotional backing that his peers enjoyed.
The period between his engagement and wedding, typically a joyful time, has become a severe test of endurance for the groom, who lacks anyone to support him on his wedding day or help with essential preparations. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Rabbi Sternbuch instructed that immediate care be entrusted to the charity organization Kuppat Ha'Ir, which will manage the groom’s essential needs.
Kuppat Ha'Ir emphasized that the public must step in where the groom’s parents have failed, providing the necessary financial support to ensure he can start his married life with dignity. Rabbi Sternbuch publicly blessed all contributors, promising "great blessings from the Almighty and a very significant mitzvah" for those who donate. The rabbi called on the community to donate 580 shekels each to help the groom overcome his financial challenges and build a stable home in Israel.
