Google Launches New Googlebook Laptops Aimed at AI and Apple Ecosystem

Google has officially unveiled a new category of laptops called Googlebook, which integrate the Android operating system with elements of the ChromeOS desktop environment. The initial models, developed in collaboration with Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, feature advanced hardware, AI processors, and high-resolution OLED screens. This strategic move aims to compete directly with Apple's ecosystem and Microsoft's Copilot+ PCs, with prices starting at $899 and availability set for October in the US and select global markets.

The Googlebook line represents a significant shift for Google, moving beyond cloud-based or budget-friendly solutions. These premium laptops emphasize high-quality construction, including metal alloys and carbon fiber, and deep integration with Android smartphones. Central to the user experience is Google's AI assistant, Gemini, alongside desktop features like Magic Pointer for content analysis and Rambler for voice dictation, plus seamless task transfer from smartphones.

Specific models include the Acer Googlebook 14, an entry-level option with an Intel Core Ultra 5 processor, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, and a 14-inch 2.8K OLED touchscreen, boasting up to 16 hours of battery life. Dell's XPS Googlebook offers a portable design with a Snapdragon X Elite processor, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, and a 13.4-inch 2.5K LCD touchscreen, promising up to 18 hours of battery life. HP's Googlebook 14 is a premium offering with a Snapdragon X Elite, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, and a 14-inch 2.8K OLED touchscreen, priced around $1,299.

Asus presents the Googlebook 14 for business users, featuring an Intel Core Ultra 5, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, and a 14-inch 2.8K OLED touchscreen, with up to 16 hours of battery life, though its $1,299 price point is noted as high compared to similar configurations. Lenovo's Googlebook 15 targets users needing a larger display, with a 15.3-inch 2.8K OLED touchscreen, Intel Core Ultra 5, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD, but offers a shorter battery life of up to 13 hours. These Googlebooks are designed with deep AI integration, aiming to reduce reliance on keyboard and mouse input, potentially offering an advantage over current offerings from Apple and Microsoft in the AI space.

Currently, it appears none of these new Googlebook models are expected to be officially imported into Israel.
