במהלך יום הכיפורים, כוחות הביטחון עצרו שני מחבלים שעל פי החשד תכננו לבצע פיגוע. הדיווחים הראשוניים מצביעים על כך שהמחבלים נתפסו בעת שניסו לחדור לשטח ישראל. פרטים נוספים על זהותם של המחבלים ועל מועד המעצר המדויק טרם פורסמו, אך נמסר כי הועברו לחקירת כוחות הביטחון. המעצר מנע, ככל הנראה, פיגוע טרור שעלול היה להתרחש במהלך החג.
