Supreme Court Blocks Election Committee's Vote Update Rule

The story · English

Israel's Supreme Court on Thursday overturned a decision by the Central Elections Committee that would have allowed party representatives at polling stations to update their parties on who had arrived to vote. The ruling, delivered by Justice Yael Willner, is seen as a significant blow to the Likud party, which had pushed for the measure.

The Central Elections Committee had previously approved the measure, which critics argued could lead to voter intimidation and manipulation. The Supreme Court's decision effectively prevents party activists from monitoring and reporting voter turnout in real-time during elections, a practice that has been a point of contention in past Israeli elections.
