ראש הממשלה בנימין נתניהו ושר הביטחון יואב גלנט מסרו כי צה"ל תקף את מפקד חטיבת רפיח בחמאס. זאת, לאחר שמוקדם יותר השבוע חוסלו מפקד חטיבת חאן יונס ובכירים נוספים בארגון. "המסר שלנו ברור: שום מחבל אינו חסין וחמאס לא יהיה בעזה", אמרו השניים. הם הוסיפו כי הם מחזקים את צה"ל והשב"כ, הפועלים בנחישות להסרת האיומים ולהגנה על אזרחי ישראל.
