IDF confirms Iranian missile fragment hit an air force base

The military censor has allowed publication that an Iranian missile fragment hit the Ramat David Air Force Base. The IDF said damage was caused to a hangar at the base, but no operational capability was affected, and the incident is under review.

On Wednesday, the IDF confirmed that part of a ballistic missile struck a hangar at the Ramat David Air Force Base. The military also allowed publication that the strike caused damage to buildings at the base and that the incident is being investigated. However, the army stressed that the hit did not interfere with operational activity and that no capability was affected.

On Monday, satellite images from the company Soar were published showing the damage at the site, though at low resolution. In the published image, compared with another image from June 5, a mark can be seen at the point where the missile fragment likely struck.

Earlier this week, Iran launched about 30 missiles toward Israel in response to an IDF strike in the Dahieh area of Beirut. The Air Force responded with strikes against targets in several cities in Iran. The IDF spokesperson announced a strike on the petrochemical complex in Mahshahr, and according to foreign reports, air defense systems, radar systems and surface-to-surface missiles were also attacked. Strikes were also reported at Mehrabad Airport in Tehran and at a UAV warehouse in the Iranian capital.

The fighting round ended just 17 hours later. Iran announced it was stopping the launches toward Israel, saying: "A painful response was given to the regime and the action was stopped. In light of the crimes and disruptions of the cruel Zionist regime in southern Lebanon and the Dahieh area, supported by the criminal America, the powerful armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in support of the oppressed people of Lebanon, gave a painful response to this regime, a response from which the fake Zionist regime and its supporters should learn a lesson."

By contrast, a senior Israeli official said, "At Trump’s request, Israel is stopping the strikes in Iran. The strikes in southern Lebanon will continue in the coming days with full force. We will also bomb Dahieh if the attacks on our towns and civilians continue."
