Boaron Claims Attorney General Acted Under a Conflict of Interest During Investigation

מאת אפרת ברינר

The story · English

MK Avichai Boaron sharply attacked Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara in an interview on Thursday on the program "Weekend" with Yaakov Bardugo. He alleged that she made decisions and managed investigative proceedings while under a conflict of interest, and said he is pursuing legal steps to force Israel Police Commissioner Danny Levy to open an investigation against her.

Boaron said the conflict-of-interest issue was examined by Yael Kotik, whose initial opinion allowed Baharav-Miara to continue in office. According to Boaron, Kotik gave that opinion without knowing key facts. He claimed that the attorney general's close circle had already recognized the existence of a conflict of interest, and that this information was withheld when Gil Limon, the deputy attorney general, approached Kotik for her view.

He said Limon did not tell Kotik that the attorney general's assistant had already recused himself, and that Limon himself had recommended that Baharav-Miara recuse herself. Boaron argued that if Kotik had known these facts in advance, her conclusion would have been completely different.

Boaron further said that during the period when the facts were being clarified, Baharav-Miara continued overseeing the investigation. "Baharav-Miara acted in a conflict of interest and ran the investigation," he said, adding that this was forbidden. He said he had appealed to Levy to investigate, was rejected, and then went to court. According to Boaron, the court ordered Levy to explain why he was not investigating Baharav-Miara, and he is now waiting for Levy to either open the probe or provide answers.
