Ben-Gvir Accuses Top Cop of Being Controlled by Attorney General

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir stated on Wednesday that the dispute between him and Police Commissioner Danny Levi is not about the police budget, but rather about appointments during the election period and the Commissioner's alleged subservience to the Attorney General.

Ben-Gvir asserted that he is the minister who secured the most funding for the police and raised officers' salaries. He claimed the core of the disagreement stems from the fact that "the Commissioner is controlled by the Attorney General, who demands he immediately promote her associate Tamar Liberty, who was the former chief of staff to ex-Commissioner Roni Alsheich."

"I will not allow the criminal Attorney General to interfere with the Israel Police and dictate to the Commissioner the appointment of her associates," Ben-Gvir declared. He specifically criticized the attempt to promote Liberty to the position of Deputy Legal Advisor for the Police, calling it a questionable appointment on the eve of elections and contrary to proper administrative procedures.

News 14 previously reported that the Attorney General had requested the Commissioner promote Liberty to this role. Ben-Gvir now claims Liberty is an associate of Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara, and this promotion attempt is the central issue in their dispute.
