Gantz's National Unity Party Prepares Independent Election Run

The National Unity party, led by Benny Gantz, is preparing to run independently in the upcoming elections following the collapse of coalition talks with MK Yuli Edelstein and the departure of Chili Tropper. The party aims to assemble a new list based on candidates who identify with the idea of unity and are not strongly aligned with any specific political camp.

National Unity is reportedly considering several potential candidates. Among them is Dedi Shacham, who has already announced his withdrawal from the elections, but party sources indicate efforts will be made to persuade him to reconsider. MK Yuli Edelstein, who is currently without a political home after Gideon Sa'ar's decision not to run, is also being considered as a figure who could align with Gantz's message of unity and expanding the party's reach.

Other individuals being evaluated include attorney Shavut Ra'anan, formerly of Yoaz Hendel's "Reservists" party, and Roy Kunkel, a former senior advisor to Yair Lapid. These potential additions come as the party seeks to position itself as a central political home for figures seeking an alternative based on unity rather than strict political affiliation.

Meanwhile, the status of current National Unity Knesset members remains uncertain. MK Pnina Tamano-Shata is expected to remain with the party, while MKs Alon Schuster and Michael Biton have not yet made final decisions about their future on the list. The party hopes to rebuild its slate around Gantz, aiming to present a unified alternative in the political landscape.
