Brother Arrested in Israel for Sibling's Murder Amid Inheritance Dispute

Israeli police have made a dramatic breakthrough in the investigation into the suspicious death of Asa Ard, 41, who was found dead in his home in the moshav (agricultural village) of Ein Ayala in late July with severe signs of violence. His brother, Ohad Ard, 36, has been arrested and faces a potential indictment for murder.

The investigation, led by the central unit of the Menashe region, culminated in a statement of charges filed against Ohad, who was apprehended in Netanya on the day of the incident. Prosecutors are seeking to detain him until the end of legal proceedings.

The alleged motive stems from a long-standing dispute between the brothers over the inheritance and family farm. Ohad had previously been indicted in 2022 for breaking and entering and assaulting family members, but this case was resolved with a probation order following a rehabilitation process.

During detention hearings, Judge Farha Jobran Miller determined there was a significant concern that Ohad's release could obstruct the investigation, ordering him to remain in custody. However, according to Maariv, the suspect vehemently denies the accusations, claiming he attempted to help his brother and performed CPR. This version of events is reportedly supported by the brothers' mother.

Ohad's attorney, Baruch Gidea, stated that his client, a former elite unit combat soldier, has fully cooperated. He added that the financial dispute had been settled previously and asserted that the case suffers from severe evidentiary and forensic weaknesses that will lead to his client's acquittal.
