Organizers of the "Freedom Flotilla" announced plans for a voyage to the Gaza Strip in October 2026. The upcoming mission will include stops in Spain, Portugal, and Italy. This follows recent sailings by the vessel "Handala 2" in Scandinavia during June and July, and the vessel "Kate" departing Bristol in the current month, with stops in Ireland, Germany, and France.
The stated goals of the journey are to challenge Israel's maritime blockade on Gaza, build public support, and pressure European governments to take practical measures against Israel. These measures include blocking arms and energy shipments, halting diplomatic and military cooperation, and imposing sanctions.
Zohar Chamberlain-Regev, a member of the coalition's steering committee, stated, "The Freedom Flotilla is setting off again because our governments continue to fail in their duties, and in every port we carry the demand to grant Palestinians the freedom to live with dignity." This attempt follows the "Sumoud" flotilla in May 2026, when Israeli naval commandos intercepted dozens of vessels attempting to break the maritime blockade and transferred hundreds of activists to Israel.
This latest initiative aims to draw international attention to the situation in Gaza and advocate for Palestinian rights.
