John Malkovich to Perform in Israel with Satirical Show

Hollywood actor John Malkovich is scheduled to perform in Israel on April 13th at the Tel Aviv Opera House with his satirical show, "The Music Critic." Malkovich expressed his excitement about returning to Israel, stating, "I am excited to return to Israel. I hope to see you optimistic." This marks Malkovich's third visit to the country, having previously visited in 2008 for the Jerusalem International Film Festival, where he received a lifetime achievement award, and in 2013 with "The Infernal Comedy."

Malkovich, known for his roles in films like "Places in the Heart," "Dangerous Liaisons," and "Being John Malkovich," has a history of supporting Israel. He has publicly opposed the cultural boycott promoted by BDS organizations and signed petitions supporting Israel's right to self-defense. He is described as having "a great sense of closeness and identification" with the Israeli audience.

"The Music Critic" is based on a concept by musician and comedian Alexey Igudesman, who compiled humorous and scathing reviews of classical music pieces. The show integrates these reviews into a stage performance, accompanied by live renditions of the reviewed works by classical musicians. The production features Malkovich as the "evil critic," alongside Igudesman and pianist Hun-Ki Joo, performing pieces by composers such as Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven.

The show has achieved international success, with previous performances in Vienna and New York. Alon Yuryk, the Israeli producer, commented on Malkovich's positive response to performing in Israel, viewing it as a confidence-building step towards the return of major international shows to the country.
