John Malkovich to Perform in Israel with Satirical Show

Hollywood actor John Malkovich is scheduled to perform in Israel on April 13th at the Tel Aviv Opera House with his satirical show, "The Music Critic." Malkovich expressed his excitement about returning to Israel, stating, "I am excited to return to Israel and would be very happy to meet the warm Israeli audience again, to whom I feel great closeness and identification. Malkovich, 72, has visited Israel twice before, in July 2008 for the Jerusalem International Film Festival where he received a lifetime achievement award, and again in May 2013 with "The Infernal Comedy." He is known for his roles in films such as "Places in the Heart," for which he received an Oscar nomination, "Dangerous Liaisons," and "Being John Malkovich."

Beyond his acting career, Malkovich is recognized for his pro-Israel stance. He has historically supported Israel, signed petitions, and publicly opposed the cultural boycott promoted by BDS organizations. "The Music Critic" show is based on a concept by musician and entertainer Alexey Igudesman, who compiled humorous and sharp reviews of classical music pieces. These reviews are integrated into the stage performance alongside live renditions of the music. The show, which has toured internationally, features Malkovich as the "evil critic," alongside Igudesman and pianist Hyun-ki Joo, accompanied by classical musicians performing works by composers like Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven.

Alon Yuryk, the Israeli producer of the show, commented on Malkovich's positive response to performing in Israel, viewing it as a confidence-building step towards the return of major international performances to the country.
