Uman Prepares for Rosh Hashanah Pilgrimage with Joint City, Organizer Efforts
Preparations are intensifying in Uman, Ukraine, for the annual Rosh Hashanah pilgrimage to the grave of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov. The "United Bratslav in Uman" organization, which leads the logistical efforts, held a joint working meeting and site tour with senior Uman city officials on Tuesday. The goal is to ensure optimal conditions for the tens of thousands of pilgrims expected to attend.
Key figures from "United Bratslav," including Chairman Rabbi Natan Ben Nun and activist Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Gevirtz, participated alongside representatives from the "Uman My Home" initiative, headed by project manager Meir Margalit. The Uman municipality was represented by Deputy Mayor Mr. Genish and a special municipal official responsible for managing the pilgrimage.
Discussions focused on logistical aspects and necessary preparations, synchronizing municipal actions with the needs of the masses as presented by "United Bratslav." Following the meeting, participants toured the city and its surroundings, examining infrastructure such as electricity and water, and other logistical needs requiring attention before the pilgrims' arrival.
The "Uman My Home" initiative reviewed locations for planned tent complexes, intended as reception areas for rest and refreshment for travelers. Efforts to enhance cleanliness and waste disposal were also discussed.
Rabbi Natan Ben Nun stated, "We are facing a logistical challenge, but thanks to intensive activity and fruitful cooperation with the Uman municipality and all parties, we are seeing welcome progress." He emphasized the goal of facilitating the pilgrims' visit to the holy site with peace of mind. A representative from "Uman My Home" added, "Our initiative is committed to providing the best possible support for everyone arriving in Uman" and welcomed the joint tour for advancing their reception facilities.
