Suspected Ebola Case in Israel: Traveler Hospitalized in Isolation

A person who recently returned to Israel from the Democratic Republic of Congo has been hospitalized in isolation at Ichilov Medical Center with suspected Ebola infection. The patient developed a fever and other symptoms after their return, according to an update from the Ministry of Health. The ministry emphasized that this is currently only a suspicion and no confirmed case has been diagnosed in Israel.

Laboratory test results are expected in the coming days. The Ministry of Health is conducting an epidemiological investigation to identify relevant contacts. Those who have not been contacted by the ministry are not required to take any action. The ministry reminded the public that Ebola is not airborne and is transmitted through direct contact with an infected person or their bodily fluids and secretions.

Given the ongoing Ebola outbreak in Congo, the Ministry of Health reiterated its call for the public to avoid non-essential travel to the country. Travelers returning from Congo who develop symptoms within 21 days are advised to stay home.
