Israeli Border Police and checkpoint officers arrested a young Haredi man suspected of driving a stolen vehicle near the Ofar checkpoint on Route 443, west of Jerusalem, on Friday. The driver, a man in his 20s from Ashdod, was stopped during a routine inspection, which revealed the car was stolen. Further checks showed he was also absent from military service. The detainee claims there may be a misunderstanding regarding the vehicle's registration.

Following the arrest, dozens of protesters gathered at the site, blocking Route 443 in the direction of Jerusalem in the evening hours. The demonstrators claimed the man was an "absconder" and protested against his potential transfer to military police custody. Border Police and Judea and Samaria District officers are currently working to restore order and reopen the road, but efforts to move the police vehicle with the detainee inside have so far failed.

The police investigation into the circumstances of the stolen vehicle is ongoing at the Modi'in Illit station. This incident adds to a recent series of arrests involving yeshiva students, heightening tensions within the Haredi community. Details of the case continue to develop.
