An Israeli man in his 60s has been reported missing since massive floods struck the Nepal-Tibet border region. He was traveling with an organized group of about 70 foreign tourists to Mount Kailash in Tibet, where a Buddhist ceremony takes place this time of year. Around 9:00 AM yesterday, he crossed the border from Tibet into Nepal, but shortly after, a powerful flood swept through the border area, and he along with the entire group lost contact. It remains unclear whether they are still in Tibet or Nepal, as the region is currently cut off from communication.

Several other backpackers, estimated at five, are also missing contact, though it is uncertain if their disappearances are related to the floods. Authorities consider all trekkers in the Langtang area missing, although it is believed they are safe but unreachable. The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a warning advising Israelis in Nepal to exercise extreme caution, avoid affected or high-risk areas, and follow local authorities' instructions due to severe weather, floods, and landslides disrupting infrastructure and blocking roads.

The ministry also recommends keeping mobile phones charged, informing family members of travel plans, avoiding flooded routes, and contacting the Israeli embassy in Nepal in case of emergency. The embassy and the consular department are maintaining close contact with the missing man’s family and local authorities to assist in search efforts.

Nepal has officially reported 157 deaths from the floods, with hundreds more missing, including at least 291 foreign tourists. Neighboring China’s Tibet region reported 3 confirmed deaths and hundreds missing. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar expressed condolences and solidarity with Nepal, praising rescue efforts amid challenging conditions. Chabad emissary in Kathmandu described the disaster as possibly the worst in Nepal’s history, with thousands feared dead and entire villages swept away by the floods.
