Satmar Rebbe's $3 Million Silver and Gold Heirlooms to Be Equally Divided Among Seven Children

The story · English

A historic division of sacred heirlooms valued at over $3 million is set to take place among the seven children of the late Satmar Rebbe, known as the 'Barek Moshe.' This event follows a previous successful and unified distribution of rare manuscripts and holy objects exclusively among the sons, reflecting their ongoing religious use of these items. The current phase involves 302 valuable silver and gold ritual objects, including goblets, candlesticks, trays, etrog boxes, wine bottles, and other ceremonial items that were either inherited from previous Satmar Rebbes, personally used by the 'Barek Moshe,' or gifted by his followers over the years.

Experts in Judaica carefully appraised the collection and divided it into seven equal packages, each containing 40 to 50 items worth approximately half a million dollars. These packages represent a balanced mix of ancestral heirlooms, personal items of the Rebbe, and gifts from devotees. The distribution will be conducted through a fair lottery among the seven children, which include the sons who serve as Satmar Rebbes and the sons-in-law who are prominent Satmar rabbis in various communities such as Borough Park, Montreal, and Monsey.

The lottery will take place at the summer residence of philanthropist Rabbi Lipa Friedman, who initiated the first phase of the estate division. Family representatives, grandchildren, and religious aides from both Satmar courts will attend, marking another chapter of unity and peace within the Satmar Hasidic dynasty decades after the Rebbe's passing.
