Satmar Benefactor Donates $10 Million for New Kiryas Joel Educational Complex
An extraordinary celebratory event took place on Tuesday evening at the home of the late prominent philanthropist Rabbi Israel Goldberger in Kiryas Joel, Monroe. The occasion marked an unprecedented donation to the Satmar institutions there. Rabbi Abraham Yehuda Goldberger, son of the deceased benefactor, announced he had purchased the naming rights for the new, large educational complex for Satmar girls, "Beit Rachel," in Kiryas Joel. The naming rights were acquired for an astonishing $10 million. The new building will be dedicated in honor of his mother, Hendel Miriam Goldberger, and will be named the "Hendel Miriam Goldberger Building."
The intimate event at the family home featured speeches by Rabbi Chaim Tzvi Teitelbaum, the Satmar rabbinical judge of Jerusalem and Kiryas Joel, the donor Rabbi Abraham Yehuda Goldberger, and his elder brother, philanthropist Rabbi Sender Goldberger. The Satmar Rebbe concluded the gathering with brief holy words emphasizing the importance of Torah study and pure education, blessing the generous donor, his mother, and the entire esteemed family with success and blessings.
