A private, low-profile ceremony was held in the Satmar Rebbe’s room in Williamsburg, where businessman and peace activist Rabbi Lipa Friedman announced a total donation of $3.5 million for Satmar institutions in Kiryas Joel, Monroe. The gift was presented in two parts and was dedicated as a tribute to his father, the longtime Satmar attendant, Rabbi Moshe Friedman.
The first part of the donation secured naming rights for the main dining hall of the yeshiva, which will now be called "Heichal Moshe Friedman Meshbak." The hall is being built inside the new "Yovel Landau Building" under construction in Kiryas Joel. The donation was also made, the report said, as a gesture of appreciation to Friedman’s close friend, philanthropist Rabbi Yoel Landau.
The second part purchased naming rights for the entire campus on Larkin Drive in Kiryas Joel, a large educational complex that serves more than 2,000 students from the Hasidic community. The full site will now be named "Shikun Moshe Friedman Meshbak."
