A special event was held last night at the Satmar Rebbe’s home in Kiryas Yoel, New York, where a donation agreement was signed for the expansion of Satmar’s educational institutions. Businessman Hanania Friedman committed to donate $3.5 million in cash, with the money to be transferred immediately to contractors working on the education complex construction project.
The new contribution adds to other large sums already raised for the project. The article notes a previous $5 million donation from developer and businessman Yoel Landa for establishing the complex.
The gathering included senior Satmar leaders, community activists, and major donors. Among those present was institutional chairman Mendel Shoimer, along with prominent businessmen from New York’s ultra-Orthodox community.
According to sources in the institution’s leadership, the fresh donation is expected to keep construction moving and allow for an accelerated expansion of the educational buildings being erected on the site. Satmar views the project as one of its most important education initiatives in recent years, designed to meet the community’s steadily growing student population.
