FDA Approves Breakthrough Oral Drug Drexonersib for Metastatic Pancreatic Cancer
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Drexonersib, a new targeted oral medication for patients with metastatic pancreatic cancer, six and a half months ahead of schedule. The drug is administered once daily in pill form and is expected to soon be available for import to Israel, although its monthly cost may reach tens of thousands of shekels.
A phase 3 clinical trial involving 500 patients with metastatic pancreatic cancer who had previously undergone treatment showed that Drexonersib, given as a single-agent oral therapy at a dose of 300 mg daily, significantly improved survival. The median overall survival for patients receiving Drexonersib was 13.2 months, compared to 6.7 months for those treated with standard chemotherapy.
This approval marks a major advancement in pancreatic cancer treatment, offering patients a more effective and convenient option. The drug's availability in Israel is anticipated soon, pending import arrangements and pricing considerations.
