Apple Wallet Enables Payments Even When iPhone Battery Is Dead

Apple Wallet offers advanced features that many users are unaware of, allowing payments and access to cards even when the iPhone battery is completely drained. One key feature, Express Mode, enables use of public transport cards, digital keys, and student IDs without unlocking the device or using Face ID, thanks to the phone's energy reserve. However, this mode poses a security risk as anyone holding the phone can use these cards without authentication.

Another new feature, Tap to Cash, allows instant money transfers between iPhones or Apple Watches without sharing personal contact details like phone numbers or emails. Users can also automate the display of payment or membership cards based on their geographic location using the Shortcuts app, streamlining the payment process.

For sites that do not accept Apple Pay directly, users can create virtual card numbers linked to Apple Cash for secure purchases. Physical membership cards not supported by Apple Wallet can be digitized through third-party apps, with iOS 27 set to introduce a built-in feature for this. Additionally, users can manage and cancel pre-authorized subscription payments directly through Wallet settings, enhancing control over their finances.
