MK Ohad Tal and Others Condemn MK Tzvi Sukkot for Destroying Terrorist Memorial in West Bank

MK Ohad Tal sharply criticized his party colleague MK Tzvi Sukkot after Sukkot destroyed a memorial dedicated to terrorists in the West Bank on Tuesday morning. Tal questioned whether this act was part of a coordinated strategy or simply a reckless move, writing in internal party groups, "Is there a deep strategy I am missing, or have we just decided to commit political suicide?"

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar also condemned Sukkot's actions, emphasizing that no MK is sovereign in the West Bank and that decisions regarding the area must be made and executed solely by the state, the IDF, and security forces. Sa'ar said, "Unfortunately, MK Sukkot knowingly did the opposite."

Opposition leaders also criticized Sukkot and the government. Naftali Bennett, head of the "Together" party, accused the government of harming Israel's security and international standing for political gain on social media, stating, "Terrorism is fought with actions, not cheap provocations." He further blamed Sukkot and Religious Zionism party leader Bezalel Smotrich for undermining IDF soldiers and endangering their missions for election videos. Bennett added that Prime Minister Netanyahu is powerless to act due to his fragile coalition.

Gadi Eisenkot, chairman of the "Yashar!" party and former IDF Chief of Staff, called Sukkot's behavior shameful, accusing him of lying to the IDF and damaging Israel's security and reputation. The incident has sparked a heated debate within Israeli politics over the appropriateness and consequences of such unilateral actions in the West Bank.

The controversy highlights tensions within the Religious Zionism party and the broader Israeli government regarding policy and conduct in the West Bank, with no indication yet of official disciplinary measures against Sukkot.
