IDF Condemns MK Tzvi Sukkot for Unauthorized Monument Demolition in West Bank

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) sharply criticized Member of Knesset Tzvi Sukkot for his conduct during a "monument tour" in the Samaria region of the West Bank. On August 25, 2026, Sukkot and several participants deviated from the approved plan and began demolishing a monument in the village of Madama without authorization. The IDF stated that forces assigned to operational duties were redirected to secure the tour, and their protection was exploited unnecessarily.

According to the IDF spokesperson, Sukkot had requested permission on August 12 to conduct a monument tour in several villages in the Samaria Division, including Beita, Burin, and Madama, located in Areas A and B. The tour was secured by IDF troops who were diverted from their regular missions. However, the participants acted contrary to the agreed coordination and framework by unlawfully destroying the monument.

The IDF condemned the unauthorized actions as a serious breach and misuse of military security resources amid ongoing operational pressures. They emphasized that the army regularly removes inciting monuments and symbols in coordination with the Civil Administration and with proper approvals. Several such operations have taken place recently, with another planned soon as part of the broader fight against terrorism and incitement.

Sukkot, affiliated with the far-right, has publicly called for the removal of terror glorifying monuments, arguing they inspire violence. The IDF's response highlights tensions between political activism and military protocols in the West Bank amid ongoing security challenges.
