Rising Living Costs Force Israeli Families to Cut Summer Plans Amid Financial Strain

A recent survey by "HaOlam HaBoker" reveals that the high cost of living in Israel is severely impacting middle-class families during the summer vacation period. Nearly half of families have had to cancel their original summer plans, including domestic and international vacations, due to unaffordable prices for flights, hotels, and attractions. This financial pressure is eroding the traditional summer holiday experience and highlighting growing economic disparities.

More than half of parents report having to impose strict limits on their children's activities, frequently denying requests for outings, additional camps, or leisure activities because of budget constraints. Approximately 62% of parents have resorted to extreme financial measures to cover summer expenses, such as dipping into existing savings, taking out new loans, or overdrawing their bank accounts.

The economic impact of the summer extends beyond the vacation itself, creating a prolonged financial burden that affects family budgets well into the new school year. This "economic tail" includes accumulating debts and interest payments, underscoring the broader challenge middle-class families face in balancing their children's needs with financial stability during costly periods like the summer break.
