Israir Receives Final FAA Approval to Launch Tel Aviv-New York Flights in October

Israir has secured final approval from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to operate regular commercial flights between Tel Aviv and New York. This authorization completes the necessary regulatory approvals from both Israeli and American aviation authorities, allowing the airline to proceed with launching the route. Ticket sales for the Tel Aviv-JFK service are set to begin this week, with the inaugural flight scheduled for October 19, 2026.

The new route is expected to enhance competition on one of the most popular and concentrated international routes for Israeli travelers, which has been dominated by a few carriers, primarily El Al. Israir plans to operate the route using Airbus A330 wide-body aircraft, initially offering four weekly flights with a future goal of daily service. The aircraft will feature 250 seats across three classes: economy, premium, and business.

This expansion follows Israir's recent international growth efforts, including receiving approval in August to operate A330 aircraft in North America. Entering the U.S. market represents a significant operational challenge for Israir, requiring a different logistical approach and high load factors to manage costs effectively. Despite launching later than American carriers Delta and United, which are expected to resume flights to Israel before the Jewish High Holidays, Israir aims to increase revenue and broaden its customer base through this long-haul service.
