Singer Sasson Shaulov Indicted for Running Red Light in Tel Aviv Car Crash
Singer Sasson Shaulov was indicted on Sunday for causing a car accident in Tel Aviv by running a red light, according to a new traffic court indictment. The crash occurred on July 3 at 1:58 a.m. at the intersection of Herzl Street and Jaffa Road. Shaulov was driving a BMW northbound on Herzl Street when he entered the intersection against a red light, colliding with another vehicle that had a green light traveling eastbound on Jaffa Road. The collision injured the driver and a passenger of the other car, both requiring medical treatment, and caused damage to both vehicles.
The indictment accuses Shaulov of reckless driving, failing to pay adequate attention to the traffic signals and other vehicles, and blocking the other car's path. The three young men in the other vehicle, all 18-year-olds from Netanya, initially reported that Shaulov admitted responsibility at the scene, telling them, "I was the driver" and "It was my mistake, I ran the red light." Shaulov also asked for the driver's phone number and promised to cover the damages but later did not follow up, raising concerns among the victims about possible preferential treatment due to his celebrity status.
Following the accident, police found no evidence of alcohol impairment, but Shaulov's license was revoked. After a thorough investigation by the Tel Aviv traffic examiners and prosecutors, the indictment was filed, charging him with running a red light, reckless driving, and causing damage. Shaulov is expected to stand trial on these charges in the Tel Aviv traffic court.
